Equine Hospital

We are the only registered equine hospital in Kerry. This accreditation is handed out by the veterinary council of Ireland. This means that patient care, hygiene, quality control, staff training, medical facilities, health and safety, etc are of the highest standard.
The road to the centre is very accessible and there is plenty of parking for your trailer or truck.

Facilities
Kenmare basically offers everything you can expect form a registered Equine Hospital.
A lot of the examinationsare done outside in the yard and lounging arena. All the facilities to do proper lameness and general examinations are there.

We can carry out more or less any procedure, examination or surgery on a horse that is required. The centre can perform nerve blocks, lung examinations with bronchoscope, treat all common joints and structures (feet, fetlocks neck, backs, etc) carry out colic surgery, etc.
Inside there is the general examination area. The space here is divided into smaller units to create privacy and a save and quit working environment. In the case you come with a mare (and foal) to have her scanned, you will be directed to our special area for reproduction examinations and treatments.

If needed, we can do further tests in our fully equipped in house lab. Here we can do blood tests, urine and dropping examinations, bacterial tests, etc. Results are in while you are waiting!

X-ray and ultrasound examination will take place in our special room. We make use of the first mobile digital x-ray system in Ireland. The ultrasound machine is especially good for orthopedic examinations such as tendons and joints.

In the cases of surgery your horse is in very good hands. We make use of two recovery rooms and a central surgical theatre. The horses are transported by electrical track. The recovery takes place in a custom build room. The walls and floor are completely covered with special rubber and foam to come to a save recovery of the horse. On a regular base specialists visit the hospital to carry out special procedures. This will ensure you of the best possible care and knowledge.

On regular base their will be a farrier to do special and regular shoeing of patients and sound horses. There are also treatment sessions with physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths.

Dental Treatments.
Dental care and diagnostics are part of our general approach of the (sport) horse. Being vets we are legally allowed to sedate your horse (dentists are not!) and if needed carry out further diagnostics like x-rays or blood tests. Sometimes the problems of riding are not at all located in the mouth and we can diagnose another cause. We believe that dental work should be carried out by trained vets and that is what we are!

Stabling
We offer different level of stabling depending on the patient. The hospital facilitates intensive care unit for foals and horses, medium care patients and less intensive stabling. Mares for breeding assessment and artificial insemination can be stabled or kept in paddocks outside.
